Carus Publishing: LadyBug
We partnered with Carus Publishing, a leading distributor of children's magazines, to bring their award-winning illustrations to life with music and animation. This sample, entitled "Ticket to ride", features some custom flash animation we produced for the
LadyBug
series. (Granted, it may be easy for you to answer the questions posed in the animation...but imagine if you were, say, three years old!)

K-8 Math Animations
Horizons was asked to develop a large battery of math animations for the McGraw-Hill Companies. We worked with Macmillan [elementary school] and Glencoe [middle and high school] to create a total of 1,064 flash animations. Each animation uses visuals and audio to illustrate - and clarify - the key concept of a math problem selected from K-8 textbooks. In creating this library of animations, we collaborated closely with McGraw-Hill Math editors, administrators, and the Media Technology Group, completing the project on time and on budget.

Garfield "Mad About Cats"
Horizons has worked with many familiar children's icons, including the Muppets, Garfield, and other lovable characters. For this children's CD-ROM, we created the animations, audio tracks, games and other features that helped children learn about exotic cat species from around the world. In addition to the educational component, of course, were the games which gave kids a chance to expand their creativity and skills. The entire CD-ROM was programmed by Horizons, and distributed nationwide.

Beginner's Bible Interactive CD-ROM
Just because a child is too young to read the Bible doesn't mean they can't learn about it. In fact, with the Beginner's Bible they have the opportunity to learn about the people, places and events described in both the Old and New Testaments. This CD-ROM set included more than 60 animated scenes, 30 interactive play areas, 8 sing-and-learn songs, and a variety of other learning materials. The Horizons-produced set also helped children develop creativity, logic and problem solving skills.

National Sales Convension Video for Amtekco
This flash animation program incorporates text and photos to showcase the breadth of services offered by a manufacturer of food service stations. The program was created to play at a national convention, in which viewers of the program would build a personalized desk accessory out of each of the categories of the manufacturer's service menu.

eSamplers: Online Product Demos for Educators

Volunteer Energy Commercial
This lively spot showcases a variety of our 2D and 3D animation capabilities, along with our green screen video production and audio post. The scenes with the on-camera spokesperson were shot in our green studio with built-in infinity cyc wall, then the supporting images were created and seamlessly composited by our motion graphics team. Sound effects were scored to the action to create the crowning touch.

MRI Advance Interactive Medical Educational Program
When Dr. Daniel White realized the efficacy of using MRI to detect early breast cancer, he came to Horizons. We created an interactive educational program for breast MRI with nearly 100 video components, developed a web-based software platform (DICOM-compatible) for tracking and managing patient data, created a CME exam for physicians using the program, and designed and developed the MRI Advance web site.

When respected urologist Dr. Erroll Singh invented a new product for urethral catheterization which would reduce patient trauma and improve medical outcomes, he turned to Horizons for help in getting that product to market. In a remarkable collaborative effort, we designed and produced everything from his web presence to his business cards (and even hosted his investor meetings). By providing innumerable services to help him get his invention patented and manufactured, Horizons played an integral role in helping Dr. Singh’s PercuVision become the gold standard in visually guided catheterization.

When Central Ohio real estate leader HER Realtors grew into a regional - and even national - presence, it re-branded under the name of Real Living. Horizons produced a number of eye-catching and attention-getting spots for Real Living, many combining live action with 2D or 3D animation. This spot played off the resurging popularity of lava lamps to help create a powerful emotional vibe surrounding the redesigned and reenergized company.

Ohio Willow Wood
Losing a leg through injury or illness doesn't have to signal the end of one's dreams. Ohio Willow Wood has been developing prosthetic limbs for more than a century - originally out of wood, and later out of things like advanced composite materials. In this video, entitled "Free the Body, Free the Spirit", Horizons profiles several individuals who continue to pursue extremely active lifestyles, in spite of their amputations, thanks to an artificial leg called the Pathfinder. Our crews traveled around the country to collect these inspiring stories.

SRA Snapshots & Simply Science
Horizons Companies played a vital, ongoing role throughout the development and execution of this grades 1-5 educational project for McGraw-Hill Education's SRA [elementary school] Division. From developing the graphic design and layout of the integrated textbook pages and video screens...to conceiving, researching and writing ninety-nine different video scripts...to shooting, editing and creating animations for the videos...and to creating custom music tracks, every single member of Horizons Companies' staff lent his or her expertise to the project. We have a philosophy at Horizons: "Don't leave them asking for more!" This opening animation is a prime example of that. We received a request to create a prototype video for a possible upcoming project. In the process of producing the prototype, we decided to create this 3D animation to introduce the video. Take a look at the animation - it denotes the underlying implication that the video series will take the viewer from the molecular level of cells (Life Science) to the realms of space (Physical Science) -- and everywhere in between!
